Size: 16 gallons in capacity and measures about 19" tall. Possibly created as a storefront advertising piece.
Color: salt glazed stoneware with blue brushed and slip trailed decoration
Appearance: very good
Condition: hairline crack running from lip to left of the capacity mark as shown (see final photo for details), a thin chip under the heel, various kiln marks
Notes: The marking refers to Artellus Howard Van Allen (1845-1915) who was a stoneware maker in Hopewell Township, Ohio. A rare early Ohio crock.
