Closure: Mostly original. The lower cast iron ring, the affixing leather ring, and all three eye bolts are original. The top steel ring is an old replacement. The tin insert is of indeterminate age. Apparently at some point the upper iron ring was removed and broken or lost. And then later, during the collector era, it was replaced. But incredibly, the bolts were kept.

Condition: flat chips on the side of the mouth, small open bubble inside

Age: c1858-1860
Availability: A rare & iconic jar with the closure largely intact, which has rarely been found. At one time this example was one of very few known in the hobby.
