Closure: original heavy glass lid with ramps, and a replica wire clamp (glass lid has a flake on the bottom and on one ramp)
Appearance: sparkling glass
Condition: roughness and chipping on the sheared mouth, which remains quite tall, as it was ground down very little in the manufacturing
Embossing: very strong

Age: 1870's
Availability: Extremely rare. These oversized jars in most cases were intended for use as commercial advertising pieces and displayed at product expositions, trade fairs, and in stores. A variety of these were shown at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, where they were displayed filled with fruit, in sizes as large as 5 gallons.
