Color: A dark ginger-ale tinted amber. This off-shade of color in a Lightning jar is normally found only in this mold number series.
Closure: original all (one lid is a near color match, the other lid is dark amber)
Appearance: shiny glass
Condition: good

Base: "PUTNAM 227"
Age: Both are original Lightning jars made in the late 1800's. The original Lightning jars are easily distinguished from the "227" reproductions, first by the fact that the originals are hand-blown instead of machine made, and second (not that any more confirmation is really needed) but the originals have a small patch of mold-imparted surface roughness that lies between the words "TRADE" and "MARK".
