A paper left inside the jar by a previous collector indicates that the German lettering embossed around the upper part of the jar translates to "MAGGIS GRANULATED MEAT BROTH" and further notes that this was a popular product in the late 19th to early 20th century, and also notes that the Maggis company now belongs to Nestle.
