Size: ONE GALLON display/advertising jar
Color: AQUAMARINE
Closure: original heavy glass cap insert and original zinc band (has a piece of tape inside the band to make it tighten snugly)
Appearance: shiny glass
Condition: shallow chipping on the ground mouth
Embossing: medium, and note the word "JAR" is superimposed over a ghosted word "IMPROVED" that is clearly visible on the front
Base: "H BROOKE MOULD MAKER NY"
Age: c1876
Availability: Extremely rare. These oversized jars were mostly intended for use as commercial advertising pieces and displayed at product expositions, trade fairs, and in stores. A variety of them were shown at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, where they were displayed filled with fruit, in sizes as large as 5 gallons.
