Closure: push-down style grooved ring wax sealer mouth finish
Appearance: sparkling glass throughout
Condition: No damage at all. Has a thin piece of blow-over glass adhered to the interior of the hollow channel, as shown at 7 o'clock location in the photo of the mouth. These paper-thin fragments of blow-over come in all shapes and sizes and are common to virtually every known example of these barrels. They are sometimes misunderstood and incorrectly interpreted as some kind of damage, because the thin piece of extra glass will sometimes have sharp reflective edges. But fortunately these are not damage, rather simply ordinary manufacturing crudity created by the 19th century glass gaffer while shearing the mouth from the blow-pipe.
Embossing: strong
Base: iron pontil scar
Age: c1858
Availability: extremely rare with black iron pontil, instead of the usual glass pontil, and a beautiful, bright & clean specimen
